The Birmingham History Center opened April 29, 2010, after a successful fundraising campaign in 2008 collected nearly $300,000 for initial exhibits and a move to the historic Young & Vann building in downtown Birmingham. The museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sustained by corporate and private grants and tax-deductible contributions from members and contributors. The museum's main funding comes from a generous 10-year, $750,000 grant from the Thomas Jernigan Foundation in memory of Birmingham entrepreneur Thomas E. Jernigan, Sr.
Other ways to help:
Gifts of stock: The museum accepts gifts of stock through accounts with Sterne Agee & Leach and Regions/Morgan Keegan. Stock donations are easy ways to translate losing assets into tax-deductible operations.
